Jeff dropped me off at the airport along with all of our luggage while he returned the rental car. I sat down in the only available chair which was next to a rugged looking man. He looked anxious. I asked him if he was alright and he began telling me his story. His son had been in a horrible accident and suffered a brain injury. He and his wife were there dropping him off to put him on a flight to visit his aunt. He described the accident, the injuries and the lawsuits that were happening regarding the accident. His eyes were watering as he was talking. I tried offering words of encouragement and compassion and then he began spilling his heart about his rocky marriage. He had just found out that his wife had been having a 6-year affair. His job, painting water wells, took him away from home during the week. So for years, he has only been home on the weekends. I told him that my husband and I did couples-in-crisis mentoring and he practically fell back in his chair. I listened as he began explaining how much he loved his wife but couldn’t deal with picturing her with another man. He then told me that he knew without a shadow of a doubt that she still loves him. I told him of some of the stories we have heard and how God had healed those relationships. I encouraged him and told him that if they worked at it then they could get through it. For some reason, the movie, “Fireproof” came to mind so I told him to look for it and to watch it. Before long he got a phone call and walked away and that was it. I’ll never see this man again but I will continue to pray for him. I love how God just put us together for that appointed meeting. I’m so thankful that God used me in this small way. Usually, it’s Jeff that has these encounters but this time God used me.
