Last night we had yet another board meeting with the Calwa Church. In the previous meeting, it was discussed that they needed a Mission Statement and a Vision Statement. This Church has never had either. Since the board members are all older and had no idea where to begin, I had offered to bring in a few examples of other church’s Mission & Vision Statements. Luckily I had printed off copies for each person and had done a bit of research on writing these statements because when we had arrived I was told that I would be co-leading the meeting. God knew that I’d need some material and some questions to get them to start brainstorming and I am so thankful he gave that to me earlier in the day.
This whole process is out of my comfort zone. We aren’t even board members and we have been given such a huge responsibility. The United Methodist Council is waiting to hear what the Mission and Vision Statements for this church are. They will then determine whether the church stays open or what the future of the church will be. They have high hopes that the Calwa Church will somehow set the stage for the future United Methodist Church direction.
I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed at this point. I’ve never written a Church’s Mission & Vision Statement and yet after collecting all of the brainstorming ideas from last night’s meeting, I’ve been asked to come up with something. Please pray with me that God would take the words spoken last night and use me to write them into the perfect summary for the direction He wants this church to go. We meet again on the 23rd where I will be presenting these statements.
